What will we be doing?

Reacquainting ourselves with the results of the North Amherst design workshop conducted by the Cecil Group in May 2011 and how those results inform the redesign of the intersection – identified as a major concern at the workshop;

Reviewing existing conditions in this part of the village center, through a brief introduction and slideshow;

Participating in interactive sessions with members of the Planning Board, Public Works Committee and Select Board to examine intersection alternatives and future physical layouts and uses for the village center.

Resources

Beginning in 2010, the Planning Department initiated an assessment of the North Amherst Village Center to help inform potential zoning and center design. In 2011, the Town hired the Cecil Group to prepare village center design plans and potential zoning amendments developed through a public process that included an intensive one day Design Workshop held at the Parish Hall in North Amherst. Listed below are some of the more relevant documents from this process as they relate to planning for the intersection of Montague and Sunderland Roads.

2010 North Amherst Walkabout Report—images of many of the properties along Sunderland Road, Cowls Road and Montague Road.

2011 North Amherst Village Center Land Use Transact—chart prepared by the Cecil Group showing the characteristics of the land uses in the village center.

2011 Summary of Design Workshop—the report prepared by the Cecil Group details the public comments and ideas gathered during the workshop.

2011 Cecil Group Presentation—assessment and analysis of the existing North Amherst Village Center in order to prepare potential new zoning.
